Original Designation: no. 410 (p.277-78). Grant by Richard Hook to the canons in free alms of full licence and free power to dig, place, alter and renew as necessary and whenever they wish in the common marsh called Hooks Marsh and in his meadow in Edwinshey wherever it pleases them and whenever they wish to construct the water conduit which they are taking to the abbey. Any damage which may be caused through digging or trampling on grass or hay or in any other way will speedily be made good on the assessment of four local law-worthy men. Date: 25 May 1220 x 28 June 1221- work on the conduit began on 25 May 1220 and reached Hooks Marsh on 28 June 1221, crossed it in 7 days and spent 9 and 10 July on Edwinshey; the workmen then went away to make more lead pipes, returned to Edwinshey on 16 August and reached the River Lea on about 28 August 1221.
