332. Final concord in the king's court at Westminster between Abbot Hugh [II] and the convent of Reading and John of Kilpeck, by which the latter recognized half the vill of Broadward, excluding the capital messuage and adjacent alder-grove, to be the right of the former; in return the abbot and convent leased to John and his heirs in perpetuity half the mill of Broadward for an annual rent of 10s, and paid him 18 marks of silver. If John or his heirs can recover from the heirs of Roger, earl of Hereford, the exchange which the latter gave to Hugh of Kilpeck, John's grandfather, in Kingstone or elsewhere, the whole vill of Broadward shall remain to the abbot and convent, and John or his heirs shall repay the 18 marks of silver. 23 Oct 1197 (Final ConcordBROADWARD, HEREFORD (ENGLAND)) Givers: Reading Abbey Receivers: John of Kilpeck
