Omnibus ad quos presens scriptum pervenerit Ricardus comes Pictavie et Cornubie salutem Noverit universitas vestra me dedisse concessisse et hac presenti carta mea confirmasse abbati et conventui Belli Loci Regis intuitu karitatis et pro anima mea et anima Johannis regis Anglie patris mei ecclesiam sancti Kyerani in Cornubia que ad meam spectabat donationem in puram et perpetuam elemosinam habend et tenend eisdem abbati et conventui cum omnibus ad eandem ecclesiam spectantibus in terris et aliis pacifice et libere sicut ullus patronus ecclesiam alicui conventui liberius potest conferre vel confirmare Et quia volo quod in omnibus dictam ecclesiam contingentibus mea et heredum meorum gaudeant protectione precipio pro me et heredibus meis vicecomiti et omnibus baillivis Cornubie quod omnes res possessiones eiusdem ecclesie protegant et manuteneant nullam eisdem abbati et conventui inferentes molestiam vel gravamen nec inferri permittentes Et ut hec mea donatio concessio et carte confirmatio perpetue firmitatis robur optineat presentem cartam sigillo meo signatam produxi in testimonium Hiis testibus et cetera

Date: The date is from the Calendar of Papal Letters, vol. I, p. 145. Richard, second son of King John, assumed the title of earl of Cornwall in 1227 and abandoned that of count of Poitou in 1243 (N. Denholm-Young, Richard of Cornwall (1947), pp. 9, 51. Of the witnesses William (IV) de Botereaux died in 1242 (J. Maclean, Parochial and Family History of Trigg Minor (3 vols., 1872-9), vol. I, p. 640). The original name for St Keverne (ecclesia sancti Caverani, Caerani, Kyrigni, Kyerani, etc.) was St Akeveran, which Beaulieu seems to have identified with the Irish St Kieran (Henderson, pt. i, p. 53).
