35 Composicio abbatis de Derham de foresta [1269] The abbey of West Dereham, Norfolk, took out a writ of disseisin and reasonable estovers against Sallay abbey, which agreed.to level the mounds raised in Gisburn forest to the injury of the common pasture. West Dereham was to take reasonable estovers in the forest for the sustenance and repair of its houses at Raheved, for buildings, fuel and making ditches, with or without the oversight of the forester of Sallay abbey. York, 9 June, 1269. Between Roger, abbot of West Dereham, by brother Walter of Billingford his attorney, plaintiff, and Hugh, abbot of Sallay, as to common of pasture in the forest of Gisburn, belonging to plaintiff's freehold in Raheved (Yorks. Notum sit omnibus presens scriptum visuris vel audituris quod cum mota esset lis in curia domini regis per breve disaisine et per breve de racionabili estoverio percipiendo de boscis de Raheved inter abbatem et conventum de Sallay ex una parte et abbatem et conventum de Dirham ex altera sub hac forma conquievit videlicet quod fossata levata per abbatem et conventum de Sallay in foresta de Giseburn[] post habebant dominium dicte foreste ad perpetuitatem ad nocumentum commune pasture dictorum abbatis et conventus de Derham in eadem foresta inperpetuum prosternentur et quod dicti abbas et conventus de Derham percipient racionabilia estoveria sua in dicta foresta ad sustentacionem et reparacionem domorum suarum de Raheved scilicet ad edificandum et conburendum et sepes faciendas ibidem de boscis in dicta foresta de Giseburne contentis sine wasto et sine donacione vendicione et omni alienacione per visum forestarii dictorum abbatis et conventus de Sallay si venire voluerit ad admonicionem procuratoris dictorum abbatis et conventus de Derham si tamen inventus fuerit apud domum suam in Raheved Si autem inventus non fuerit aut venire noluerit nichilominus dictus procurator capiet necessaria in dicta foresta sicut predictum est Et hanc composicionem inperpetuum fideliter observandam dicti abbates de Sallay et de Derham mutuis scriptis signa alternatim apposuerunt et sacramentis debitis confirmaverunt His testibus Domino Johanne de Eston domino Eustachio de Rillestan domino Henrico de Perci et multis aliis
