Abstract25. COCKERINGTON Agreement between (1) John son of Peter of Wybam and Peter his father, (2) Philip Galle of Saltfleetby, made in St Herefrith's church, Louth. John and Peter have received forty of the sixty marks Philip owed John for a croft and other properties in Cockerington which Philip had from him. The abbot of Louth Park is to deliver the remaining twenty marks to John and Peter at Martinmas next or earlier, provided they obtain a discharge for Philip of any debt to the king or the Jews or anyone else to whom the property was previously pledged. Failing this, they are to do so in any way possible out of the twenty marks in the custody of the abbot, who is to pay Philip at discretion for seeking the discharge and to indemnify him for any costs or damages; whatever remains is to be paid to John and Peter. Judgement by prior William of Holy Trinity, Ipswich, and Richard dean of Ipswich, sub-delegates appointed by the prior of Bicester, the judge delegate appointed by a mandate of Pope Alexander IV (31 July 1255), in a dispute between the prior and convent of Eye and the prior and canons of Woodbridge concerning the tithes of Bircholt, and Northale in Huntereswich, both in Stradbroke, which Eye claim should be returned to them.
