Abstract112. Confirmation by William de Ste Mère Eglise bishop of London of the appropriation by Bishop Richard Fitz Neal to the monks of the church of Great Bardfield (no.111), saving the perpetual vicarage of Geoffrey the chaplain and his successors, and augmentation of the vicarage in the following form: the vicar shall receive all the revenues of the church, except the tithe of corn and vegetables of the whole parish and the tithe of pannage. The prior and convent shall each year between Michaelmas and the Feast of All Saints provide the vicar with grain to the value of five marks, that is twenty horseloads of wheat valued at three marks, eight loads of rye valued at one mark and thirteen loads of oats valued at one mark, or shall give him five marks if he so prefers. The vicar shall have the tithe of hay of the whole vill and all the tithe of corn and vegetables from the prior's demesne which pertains to the church of Great Bardfield, besides that from the garden and orchard, and he shall have an acre of land on which to make a messuage for himself. The vicar shall discharge all the episcopal obligations of the church. 18 September 1214.
