Abstract613. Ordinacio archiepiscopi de parte decimarum. et archiepis- copah et synodali et archidiaconali ecclesie de Tadecastre. [ii December, 1225] The long dispute between Sallay abbey on the one hand and William de Percy and William Gernun on the other, concerning Tadcaster church was referred to Walter Gray for settlement, the archbishop depositing their letters patent in the Treasury at York. He awarded to the abbey the tithes of corn and vegetables on the York side of the river Wharfe, and a selion and a half of church land at Oxton. The tithes pertaining to the altarage of the church remained to the parson, Gernun, with the exception of the abbey's sheep and animals and the lesser tithes on land cultivated directly by the monks. The advowson was to remain to William de Percy and his heirs, Gernun's life tenure being guaranteed. The monks were to be quit of all episcopal, synodal and archidiaconal dues, but on the vigil of the Assumption they were to give to the church of Tadcaster two wax candles of three pounds each, in remembrance of this settlement. Towneley supplies further witnesses and the date- Waltero de Taney canonico Suweln' (Southwell), J. de Wakeringham, Odone, johanne clericis, Ricardo de Bedford, Henrico Wallensi. Datum apud Lanum per manum magistri W. de Taney 3 idus Decembris, pontificatus nostri anno nono.
