Abstract220. Notification by the abbot and prior of Burton-on-Trent and the rural dean of Repton, that following the receipt of a mandate from Pope Gregory IX, delegating them to hear the case between Tutbury Priory and those whom the monks claimed were despoil- ing them of their possessions, tithes, dues etc., Robert, vicar of Doveridge, was summoned to answer the charges. After Robert had denied the allegations and counter-charged the Priory, the judges-delegate pronounced sentence as follows- 1. The Priory had not despoiled the vicar of his free common at Waldley and curtum boscum (nemus). 2. The Priory is entitled to retain the tithes from the above as well as from the mills and fishery of Doveridge. 3. The Priory is entitled to retain the tithes of an acre of meadow below Doveridge Holt. 4. In the above matters, perpetual silence is imposed on the vicar. 5. The vicar has the right to take the tithes of the assart of Henry of Denstone in the field of West Broughton. (1235).
