Charter00730038
Date: 1239-05-03
Abstract38. HUTTOFT Agreement between Bullington priory and Markby priory about the number of Markby's sheep in the pasture of Huttoft beyond Hauedic. Markby may have six hundred sheep there in accordance with documents had from Philip of Kyme senior and his son Simon, that is, five hundred for 5s. yearly and one hundred 'in pure alms'; the 5s., which Markby used to pay Philip, is to be paid to Bullington as attorney for Philip of Kyme junior, who has given the rent and all his pasture beyond the Hauedic of Huttoft to Bullington with the body of his mother Rohesia. Markby has renounced the right it had from Eudo of Farlesthorpe and others to fifty perches of pasture in North Marsh between the Hauedic and the sea. Bullington has granted pasture for three hundred sheep in South Marsh, for 30d. yearly, to Markby, which is to have access to its sheepfold through South Marsh as far as the water of Steinilmar, over which it may make a bridge wherever convenient. If Markby's sheep exceed the permitted numbers, they may be impounded by Bullington and the excess kept, pending satisfaction. Provision is made for Bullington to count the sheep three times a year, other than at lambing time, and for Markby's lay brother or shepherds to be invited to take part. (Agreement, Settlement, HUTTOFT, LINCOLNSHIRE (ENGLAND)) Givers: Bullington Priory Receivers: Markby Priory
