Stark vergrösserte Figureninitiale „E,“, geformt aus einem Trompete spielenden Drachen mit Menschenkopf in schwarzer Feder, Inkarnat in Rosa. - Stil und Einordnung:
Diese Initiale gehört dem herausragendsten Florator der Kanzlei von Charles V, der Urkunden dekoriert, die meist im königlichen Archiv verbleiben. Wirkt hier die Verbindung von zoo- und anthropomorphen Elementen ein wenig unorganisch, so werden später nur noch Drachen genutzt, z. B. 1374 Oktober (Archives nationales, J 402, no 7) oder noch später 1386 November 4 (Archives nationales, J 382, no 9). Charakterisch für seine Drachen ist die Mischung aus einem Flügel und einer Pfote mit Raubtierkrallen, an der zottige Fellbüschel abstehen. - Gabriele Bartz
