    * i. e. Adam de Molyneus, lord of Sephton, the eldest son of Richard de Molyneus, and Edith, daughter of Almeric Pincerna, ante, p. 418. His brother, Robert le Molyneus, held three bovates of land in Thornton, and was the ancestor of the family of Molyneux of Thornton. Adam de Molyneus had two sons, William and Roger. The eldest, Sir William, married Margaret, daughter of Alan de Thornton, and had three sons, Sir Richard, William, and Symon. Sir Richard succeeded as

lord of Sephton, and married Emma, daughter of Dounes. He had three

children, William, Thomas, the ancestor of the Molyneuxes of Hawldey, and a daughter, who married Hugh Banister of Formby. The eldest son, Sir William Molyneux of Sephton, was created a Knight Banneret in Gascony, and died A.D. 1289, and from him descend the present family of Molyneux, Lord Sefton.

t William de Walton owned Hale and Ilalewood, and had two sons. Richard, the eldest, took the name of de Mida, and had a grant of Hale from Henry II. (see p. 372) and also 4 John. He died without issue, leaving his younger brother, Henry de Walton his heir, who had a grant of Walton, fformby, and Hale, 11 Henry III. He had a son, William, who apparently died without issue, and a daughter, who married Alan de Columbers, who received Hale from her father. Their daugh ter Cecily married Sir Robert de Holand, whose daughter Avena married Adam Ireland, lord of Hutte, and carried Hale into that family.
