134. Mandate of Edmund Rich archbishop of Canterbury to the prior and sacristan of St Mary Overy, Southwark, to hear and determine the justice of the complaint of the prior and convent of Stoke by Clare that Master Alan de Beccles, archdeacon of Sudbury, had sequestrated certain tithes in Cavendish, which they had demonstrated to be theirs, in a case which did not by law fall within his jurisdiction, wherefore they appealed to the archbishop's court of Audience. 20 January 1239. Eadmundus Dei gracia archiepiscopus Cantuariensis tocius Anglie primas dilectis in Christo filiis priori et sacriste de Suwerk[] salutem graciam et benediccionem Querelam prioris et conventus de Stokes recepimus continentem quod dilectus in Christo filius magister a[lanus] archidiaconus Subir[ie] quasdam decimas in villa de Cavenedis ad ecclesiam suam de iure spectantes licet coram eo de iure suo plene docuissent dictas decimas contra iusticiam in casu a iure non concesso sequestravit unde se sencientes indebite pregravari nostram audienciam appellarunt Quocirca discrecioni vestre mandamus quatinus vocatis qui fuerint evocandi de dicta appellacione legitime cognoscentes si inveneritis ita esse causam audiatis et quod canonicum fuerit statuatis facientes quod statueritis per censuram ecclesiasticam firmiter observari Datum apud Lamhee xiii kal Februarii pontificatus nostri anno quinto
