Anno ab incarnatione domini m c xiiij kalendis decembris facta est conventio in Insula Vecta inter ecclesiam sancte Marie de Caresbroc et Alvietum eiusdem ecclesie presbiterum et ecclesiam de Chale et Hug[] Gernun qui eandem ecclesiam fundavit in presencia Willelmi Giffard Wintoniensis episcopi qui eadem die predictam ecclesiam de Chale dedicavit apud quam dedicationem exclamata et confirmata est hec conventio multorum testimonio Alvietus presbiter calumpniabatur quod ecclesia de Chale erat de parochia ecclesie sancte Marie de Caresbroc et Hugo Gernun dicebat quod homines de feodo suo non erant ecclesie de Caresbroc vel alibi atitulati set vivi potuerant ire antiqua consuetudine ad quam vellent ecclesiam et mortuorum corpora ubicumque vellent sepelire Hoc dicebat eos potuisse et fecisse Alvietus autem hoc negabat et per considerationem calumpnie sue probationem offerebat sed ne dampnum super utramque ecclesiam verteretur et ut amor inter eos et ipsorum amicos confirmaretur per considerationem communium amicorum et per concessionem et confirmationem episcopi facta est hec concordia Hugo Gernun concessit ecclesie s[] m[] de Caresbroc totam medietatem terre et decimarum et sepulture et oblationum excepta propria domo sua quas miserunt vel mittent ad ecclesiam de Chale sive homines in ipsius Hugonis feodo manentes sive quicumque alii Et ad servicium et sustentationem et defensionem et reparationem ecclesie remanet sine participatione terra quam Hugo dotavit ecclesiam et decima propriarum carucarum et ut supradictum est oblationes proprie domus Et presbiter de Chale faciet totum servicium ecclesie in vivis et defunctis in libris et vestimentis in defensione et reparatione eciam si funditus corruerit et hoc totum faciet sine auxilio et erogatione presbiteri de Caresbroc et per hanc concordiam concessit Alvietus presbiter fieri atrium apud ecclesiam de Chale Hanc conventionem episcopus sigilli sui testimonio approbavit et sub perpetuo anathemate confirmavit ut quicumque hanc conventionem scienter violaverit anathema sit Testibus hiis Richerio capellano episcopi et decano Stephano clerico Rogero de Melaford Radulfo Mansello
