553. Quieta clamacio Thome le Grant de redditu j. d. in Ebor. [1248-9] Thomas le Grant, citizen of York, released his right to the Id. rent for the land in Micklegate without the walls. Two volumes of the register of St. Mary's abbey, York, are in John Rylands Library, Manchester; Latin MSS. 220-1. A glance through the first vol. reveals the following mayors of York as witnesses - Walter of Stokes, ff. 55v, 90v; Thomas Palmer, f. 57; John Lespecer, f. 57v; Hugh of Seleby, f. 72; Nicholas of Langeton (1327). f. 72v. Omnibus hoc scriptum visuris vel audituris Thomas le Grant civis Ebor salutem in Domino sempiternam Noverit universitas vestra me pro salute anime mee et omnium antecessorum meorum et heredum meorum dedisse concessisse relaxasse et quietum clamasse de me et heredibus meis inperpetuum Deo et beate Marie et monachis de Sallai totum jus et clamium quod habui in annuo redditu unius denarii redditus in quo michi dicti monachi tenebantur pro quadam terra quam de me tenent in Mikelgate extra muros Ebor ita quod nec ego Thomas nec heredes mei nec aliquis per nos in dicto annuo redditu aliquod jus vel clamium vendicare vel exigere poterimus in posterum et dictam terram suam in puram et perpetuam elemosinam de me et heredibus meis teneant inperpetuum In cujus rei testimonium huic scripto sigillum meum apposui Testibus Domino J tunc majore Ebor Waltero de Stokes Andrea de Selebi Johanne le Espicer et aliis [...]
