Date: Issued before Baldwin was made earl of Devon. The attestation of Stephen de Mandeville, his comrade-in-arms whilst in exile in Normandy (Orderic Vitalis, vi, 510; Gesta Stephani, pp 168, 170) strongly suggests a date after their return to England in summer 1139.
