Comment
Date: Note- Earl Robert founded Margam Abbey in 1147, before his death on 31 October [Knowles and Hadcock, who give 21 November [III], are in error- `Annales de Margam', Ann. Mon. i. 14; CP v. 686]. It is even possible that the event occurred between 22 July and 28 October, foundation dates for two other monasteries between which Margam's is mentioned in a catalogue of Cistercian Abbeys preserved in the British Museum [W[alter] de G[ray] Birch, `On the Date of Foundation ascribed to the Cistercian Abbeys in Great Britain', JBAA xxvi [1870], 287, and Margam Abbey, 14-15].Charter on the DEEDS-homepage: http://deeds.library.utoronto.ca/charters/00810119
