Comment

Date: Of the witnesses, only Ralph of Braughing is elsewhere associated with the Hospitallers: at Little Sampford c. 1225 X 1230 (R, fo. 8v no. 75). The Willaim Giffard who appears here is probably not the same as that in N no. 153, even though the rubric of the manuscript indicates that he is. The name occurs in Essex throughout the 13th century, and it is likely that this deed was issued shortly after Robert of Tryndehaye made his grants to the Hospital c. 1240 (N no. 367, 370).
