61. The rector and parishioners grant to Richard of Abingdon, builder, a house in School Street for the term of his life. 1 It was known as St. Mary's Entry. 2 Anketil Pikering held a house in High Street on the west of Haberdasher Hall; from 1450 to 1700 it belonged to All Souls College. 3 Probably the lowest portion of the tower, which is of the years 1270-1280 (The Church ef St. Mary, by T. G. Jackson, P. 79). 4 Not in MS. 1 The deed is an indenture. It had five seals, of which the third and fifth have perished; the first is illegible, the second is S. WILLELMI LE LYOUR, the fourth is 1 5-8 in. by 1 1-8 in., the Virgin seated with Child and two stars S' PROCRATORV BEATE MARIE. This seal, unknown elsewhere, is reproduced in the Appendix. A seal used by churchwardens is very rare; in Oxford, besides St. Mary's, there was a seal of the churchwardens of St. Mary Magdalen; it is apparently of the latter half of the thirteenth century, and has been reproduced in Collectanea- (O. H. S.), vol. ii. There was also a seal at St. Peter's in the East (Early Science in Oxford, iv. 216, by R. T. Gunther).
