    Innocentius episcopus etc. Dilecto filio ...Po- testati Civitatis Esculane, salutem etc. Etsi de mul- tis possit tue fidei puritas commendari, in hoc tamen precipue commendabihs reputatur, quod equo animo tolerare non vales, quicquid suspectum oc- currit, unde possit ecclesie Romane dispendium imminere. Cum igitur quamplures cives Esculani ad hoc suos inchnaverint animos, ut treugue inter Ci- vitatem eandem et nobilem virum Conradum, natum quondam Frederici ohm se pro Imperatore gerentis, iniri debeant, sicut per tuas nobis litteras intimasti, nos, qui Civitatem eandem affectu sincero prosequi- mur, equanimius sustinemus, si treugue predicte fiant, quoniam ex guerrarum discrimine possint eidem Civitati dispendia provenire, dum tamen in eis, quod mandatum ecclesie salvum remaneat, speciahter sit expressum: quod si fieri cum huius-

    modi expressione non possit, ne Civitas ipsa durio- ribus detrimentis afiici valeat, ad consumationem treuguarum ipsarum nichilominus procedatur. Da- tum Perusii Nonis Septembris, anno decimo.
