    Marchionibus Estensibus, ut rupturam in ripa Padi apud castrum Argentae claudi faciant. Eeg. Anno XVI. SecreL ep. 1584. fol. 338.

    Iohannes episcopus etc. Dilectis filiis Raynal- do et Opizoni Marchionibus Estensibus, salutem etc. Admiratione pridem accepimus, quod licet in Rippa Padi scienter et manualiter, ut dicitur, dudum tem- pore, quo Castrum Argente per vos detinebatur, prope ipsum Castrum facta fuerit quedam ruptura, que adeo periculosa existit, quod nisi claudatur ce- leriter, dubitatur verisimiliter de destructione irre- parabili dicti Castri, vosque ante restitutionem dicti Castri factam Venerabili fratri nostro Bertrando' Episcopo Ostiensi, apostolice sedis Legato, promi- seritis rupturam claudere supradictam, nunc tamen etiam legitime requisiti eam claudi facere non cura-

    tis: Nobilitatem itaque vestram rogamus et horta- mur attente, quatinus rupturam huiusmodi, sicut spem eidem Legato dedistis, claudi absque dila- tione qualibet faciatis, a novitatibus indebitis pror- sus de cetero abstinentes. Datum Avinione v. Kal. Maii, Pont nostri anno decimo sexto.
