Comment
Date: The date is from the Calendar of Papal Letters, vol. I, p. 145. Richard, second son of King John, assumed the title of earl of Cornwall in 1227 and abandoned that of count of Poitou in 1243 (N. Denholm-Young, Richard of Cornwall (1947), pp. 9, 51. Of the witnesses William (IV) de Botereaux died in 1242 (J. Maclean, Parochial and Family History of Trigg Minor (3 vols., 1872-9), vol. I, p. 640). The original name for St Keverne (ecclesia sancti Caverani, Caerani, Kyrigni, Kyerani, etc.) was St Akeveran, which Beaulieu seems to have identified with the Irish St Kieran (Henderson, pt. i, p. 53).Charter on the DEEDS-homepage: http://deeds.library.utoronto.ca/charters/00140249
