748. 5 September 1296. Agreement whereby Brother Henry prior of the church of Coventry has leased and granted to John de Langeleye of Coventry and Alice his wife a furlong (culturam) of land which is called Spitelcroft (spitele croft) in Coventry, which furlong Richard de Asseby previously held of the aforesaid prior; to be held with appurtenances to them for their entire life of the aforesaid prior and his successors and the aforesaid church freely and peacefully by the service of 10s. of silver to be paid annually as long as either of them shall live, at two terms of the year, namely 5s. at the feast of St. Michael the Archangel and 5s. at Easter for all service. Mutual sealing clause [chirograph]. Witnesses: Robert de Stok', William de Schulton', Adam Russel, Richard de Mure, Richard de Weston' and others.
