272 Confirmation of the composition between the Priory and the Knights Hospitallers over tithes in the parish of Barrow-on-Trent (Db.), by the prior of Westminster Abbey and the deans of St. Martin-le-Grand and Arches, delegated by Pope Gregory IX to hear the dispute. Universis sancte matris ecclesie filiis ad quos presens scriptum [pervenerit] prior de Westm[] London[] diocesis sancti Martini et sancte Marie de Arcubus decani London[] salutem in domino Mandatum domini pape in hec verba suscepimus [...] Harum igitur auctoritate litterarum cum Hospitalarii predicti priorem et conventum Tuttisbur[] super decimis quas in parochia de Barwe percipere consueverunt J eciam de Glapiun et quosdam alios clericos et laicos alias nominatos super violentis et injuriis coram nobis traxissent in causam partibus per procuratores in judicio tam ad componendum amicabiliter et transigendum quam ad litigandum legittime constitutos comparentibus omnes controversie et contenciones supradicte sub hac forma amicabili composicione conquieverunt videlicet quod Hospitalarii predicti nomine ecclesie eorum de Barwe predictas decimas perpetuo pacifice percipiant et possideant Pro bono autem pacis solvent perpetuo annuatim idem hospitalarii apud Barwe bona fide et sine aliqua difficultate per manus procuratoris predicte ecclesie eorum de Barwe qui ibidem pro tempore moram fecerit dictis priori et conventui pro eisdem decimis sexaginta solidos sterlingorum medietatem videlicet ad festum sancti Michaelis et aliam medietatem ad pascha ita quod si in solucione dicte pecunie aliquo termino cessaverint expensas et dampna dictis monachis quas hujusmodi occasione fecerint sine difficultate persolvent Et ad hec subjecerunt se dicti Hospitalarii jurisdiccioni domini archidiaconi de Sancto Albano qui pro tempore fuerit renunciantes omni appellacioni excepcioni privilegio fori et regie prohibicioni in hac parte ita quod ipse sine more dispendio ipsos ad solucionem dicte pecunie expensarum et dampnorum singulis terminis quo in solucione fuerit cessatum compellat Subjecerunt se eciam dicti monachi jurisdiccioni ejusdem eodem modo ad dictam composicionem fideliter observandam Ad majorem eciam securitatem et perpetuam rei stabilitatem nos dictam composicionem auctoritate apostolica confirmantes huic scripto in modum cirograffi confecto signa nostra una cum signis parcium apposuimus Dat[] anno gracie m cc tricesimo tercio
