416. Carta rectoris de Arneclif. [1236] When a dispute arose between R., rector of the church of Arncliff and Sallay abbey concerning the tithes of corn and pulse in Litton, by the authority of the Pope an amicable agreement was reached. The rector granted to the abbey peaceful possession of such tithes as they enjoyed in 1236, in return for half a mark annually. Omnibus sancte ecclesie filiis presentibus et futuris R rector ecclesie de Arneclif salutem Noverit universitas vestra quod cum auctoritate domini pape contencio mota esset inter abbatem et conventum de Sallai ex una parte et me ex altera super decimis bladi et leguminis de Litton lis tandem amicabilis sub hac forma inter nos conquievit scilicet quod ego R concessi meo perpetuo eisdem abbati et conventui omnes decimas predictas pacifice percipiendas in quarum possessione anno gracie m cc xxxvj pro dimidia marca annuatim michi solvenda ad ecclesiam de Arneclif ad festum sancti Martini in hyeme Et ut ista composicio rata et stabilis permaneat presens scriptum sigilli mei impressione roboravi Actum coram his Magistro G de Norwico magistro J de Cantelai domino P de Munkegete et aliis multis
