Deo seruientib3 in puram et ppetuam elemosynam unum edificium cum orto in villa de Merton p salute anime mee, patris, et matris mee, illud, scilicet, íoftum quod Willmus fil. Ede quondam tenuit versus occidentem. Habend, et tenend. dictis monachis dicii Loci Benedicti de Stanlawe libere, et quiete, integre, cum omnib3 commu nion^, aisiamentis tante terre in predicta villa ptinentib3 adeo libere sicut aliqua elemosyna dari potest. Et ego W. et heredes mei pre- dictum edificium cum orto et ptinentijs contra omues homines et feminas warantizabimus imppetuum dictis monachis et eorum suc cessor^. * Neither the name of Richard le Botiler, nor that of J. de Canccfcld, who is stated as a witness to No. 33 post, are to be found in any of the lists of Sheriffs of tho county. But there is a deficiency in tho modern lists from 1249 to 1256, and another from 1263 to 1272, and therefore these two sheriffs may with great probability be placed within those dates.
