439. Notification' by Prior David and the monks that they have confirmed to William Rupe 1 hide in Cleeve Prior, l hide in Conderton and 3 virgates in Rarvington which Maurice sold to him and l virgate in Harvington which they granted to him and an assart in Severn Stoke which Edwin de Burneford held and I hide at Blackwell (in Tredington) all to be held freely by hereditary right and the mill of Harvington in feefarm for 17s. and 30 sticks of eels annually. [Note that this charter was produced in the king's court at Hanley (Hanley Castle) 13 John (1211-12) and that it was decided that the monks were bound to warrant to the heirs of William Rupe 1 virgate at Harvington but nothing else mentioned in the charter.] 1143-45. Comment

Date: There is another copy (with the note) in the Rental of 1240 (Hale, 62b). Nos . 386 and 387 above belonging to 1232 concern among other things the withholding of tithes by Thomas Rupe, knight, from his demesne in Harvington. Thomas Rupe was dead when the rental of 1240 was compiled (Hale, 60a, 60b) and at that date Richard de Saunford held the mill and 11 virgates rendering 17s. and 30 sticks of eels. This Richard is presumably the man mentioned in the note referring to 1211-12.
