Abstract: Tsar Kaliman Asen (1241–1246), son of Tsar Ioan Asen II, endows the Athonite Monastery of Zograf with extensive possessions throught Macedonia, Thrace and the Danube littoral. The document, although supplied with an authentic gold seal of Ioan Asen II, is a forgery from the 16th or 17th century.

Abstract: Tsar Kaloyan informs the Pope that his messenger had reached Bulgaria and brought the palium to Archbishop Basil, who was declared the Primate of all Bulgaria and Valachia. Tsar asks for another embassy that would bring him an imperial crown and he plans to send his confidant Blasius, now Bishop of Braničevo, with rich gifts to Rome.

Abstract: Tsar Kaloyan tells the Pope that he has sent Archbishop Basil with lavish gifts to Rome, but the Greeks didn’t allow him to cross the sea, so the Archbishop had to send two of his men to continue the journey to Rome. Kaloyan asks Innocent III to crown him with an imperial crown and elevate Basil to the rank of patriarch.
