Abstract: 78. Settlement before Walkelin archdeacon of Suffolk and prior Gilbert of Butley, judges delegate appointed by a mandate of Pope Lucius III (con. 6 September 1181), in a dispute between Wimer parson of Grimston and G. clerk of Bawsey concerning the tithes and offerings of the parishes of Wendling and Rudham (?) which Wimer claimed pertained to his church. G. is to hold the tithes and offerings for the term of his life for an annual render to Wimer of 1-2m. 25 March 1184-24 March 1185. Conpositio inter Wim[erum] personam de Grimmestun' et G. clericum de Beuseya. 1 MS Reudham? Rendham? Note- Since this document does not directly concern Eye, excepting their interests in the church of Bawsey, there is some difficulty with the reading and identification of the second parish in this charter. Rendham (Suff.) seems unlikely since the usual form is 'Rindham'. Probably it refers either to Roudham in the south of Norfolk just north of Bridgham, or to Rudham north-east of Grimston, which may seem more likely in this context. In the cartulary the letters 'o' and 'e' are often poorly distinguished and the letters 'n' and 'u' are usually indistinguishable.
