Abstract: 63. The legacy of Henry de Swapham, or de Lincolnia. 1 This notice in the Registrum Munim., p. 6, shows that the deed was in existence in 1397. From deeds at Christ Church we know that the house of Gilbert Exemplator, also known as Gilbert the Stacioner, was where the eastern gate of All Souls is. The parishioners received a rent of 5s. a year from this tenement, as we learn from a rental of St. Mary's church Of 1460; there must therefore have been some addition to the 40s. mentioned in this deed. The names in this deed show that it must be of about the years 1260- 1270. 2 This extract is from the Reg. Mun., p. 6; the will is lacking, but a portion of it is printed in the Cartulaty of the Hospital of St. John, i. 270. This property was sometimes known as Mariole Hall and is now the site of the Codrington Library; the tenement of Nicholas the beadle became the southern part of Cat Hall and the tenement of the parishioners of Buckland became Tingwick's Inn (Mediaeval Archives of the Univ., i. 279 and 289).
