Abstract: 417. Composicio cum ecclesia de Arneclif de decimis de Litton. [1227] Brother Gerard, the abbot of Furness, and the priors of Cartmel and Lancaster were appointed by Pope Honorius 111 (1216 27) to settle a dispute between Sallay abbey and Richard, parson of Arncliff, concerning certain tithes in Arneliff parish. It was agreed that by the authority of the Cis- tercian privileges and the sanction of a General Council, the monks ought to be exempt from tithes on lands they cultivated by their own labour or expense at the time of the General Council, but for the sake of peace should pay the church of St. Oswald, Arncliff, 2s. yearly. Abstract: Original Designation: no. 234 (p. 153). Final concord made in the king's court at Westminster before the chief justiciar Hubert de Burgh and three other named justices between John Juvenis and Brother Robert de Dive prior of the Hospital of Jerusalem in England by his attorney Brother Manasser about a fishery in the River Lea at Nazeing which John claims has been extended by the prior's bailiff and men to the detriment of his free tenement in Nazeing. The prior grants that John and his heirs may strengthen their weir and have a fishery whenever and wherever they wish on the prior's land at Brokbourne southwards from the middle of the prior's meadow called Hospital Pasture, the half meadow measuring 254 yards, and that John may move his fishery as he wishes within that area. The prior gives a silver mark to John who quitclaims all his right and claim to any fishery or weir in the northern half of the prior's demesne meadow at Hospital Pasture.
