Notification of the adjudication by the abbot of Leiston and the dean of Wainford who with the prior of Butley were appointed papal judges delegate by Pope Innocent III on 13 April 1214 to decide the case between the abbot and convent of Sibton on one side and Edmund of Norwich, layman, and Basilia his wife, of Norwich diocese, on the other. The abbot and convent claimed that Edmund and Basilia had unjustly troubled them concerning the land Beta the woman held of Alexander of All Saints west of the king's toll house in Norwich, Norfolk, concerning the stall and market place of the fishermen, and all the fee with a bake house in Needham, Norfolk, which Alexander of All Saints had bequeathed to them in his testament with the consent of Alexander his son and of Basilia widow of the second Alexander who on her own account had agreed to this bestowal. Edmund and Basilia claimed they had justly troubled the monks concerning these lands which rightly belonged to them. The case was decided in favour of the monks. Abstract: 61. Judgement by abbot Hugh of Bury St Edmunds, prior Herbert of Bury and B. prior of Great Bricett, judges delegate appointed by a mandate of Pope Honorius III (6 September 1216) in a dispute between the prior and convent of Eye and John of Brancaster and others, concerning the annual pension of 1 m due to the convent from the church of Badingham. John has acknowledged the right of the convent and has sworn to pay the pension annually, without prejudice to whatever right the convent on the one hand or Herbert de Alencon on the other, may have in the advowson of that church. At Bury St Edmunds in the chapel of St Denis. 4 May 1218. Sententia de pensione ecclesie de Badingham. Note: It appears John of Brancaster is rector of Badingham. See also no. 80.
